Birthing Happiness: Introducing Bec

My name is Bec. I, (she/her) am a full spectrum trauma informed doula, radical birth keeper, coach, womb worker, birth activist, yogi, truth speaker, artist, writer and host of The Way of The Womb podcast.

As women, we have been taught to hold so much within our bodies; especially our wombs. We can hold pain, trauma + stagnant emotions in this organ. Through womb healing I support women to explore + connect to their womb space using physical, energetic + emotional techniques so they can begin to heal + liberate their womb space to experience pain free periods + to begin to live in connection, in alignment + in flow with their cycles. This is an ancient modality of healing, done by women for thousands of generations all over the world.

What is a ‘doula’ and where does the role originate from?

The word ‘Doula’ comes from the Greek language and actually means ‘servant – woman‘ and exactly what it sounds like – as a doula we are in full service to the woman or person we are supporting.

Back in the times where we lived deeply in community, wise women + elders from the village would gather to support a birthing woman. They would encourage her, support her, listen to her, care for her, hold the birth space in safety and above all, believe in her + trust the power of her body.

As she journeyed through labour, the women from the village would gather to drink tea and to witness her as she transformed from ‘maiden’ to ‘mother’.  They would watch in awe as they witnessed the birthing mother in her raw, primal beauty.

The sacredness of birth has been forgotten in our western society, it is now deemed as a medical event, however our ancestors who attended birth back in community times would support normally without medical certification and would work off intuition & experience alone. These women were known as midwives, elders, medicine women, healers and were seen as wise women of the community.

When we now look back at these stories, we acknowledge these women as being the role of what a doula does today.

What exactly does a doula do?

A doula works with the emotional, mental, energetic, spiritual & physical side of birth without offering medical advice or medical services. We offer continuous support for families, throughout pregnancy, birth and in the early days as the family adjusts to becoming parents. Doulas work alongside the midwife (if applicable), as a team ensuring your experience is as positive and empowering for you as it can be.  Doulas hold space for you, ensuring the environment you birth in is the best it can be.

Having a doula present at your birth can help to reduce medical intervention, reduce negative birth experiences and reduce the risk of caesarean birth. Doula’s can help increase natural birth outcomes, home birth, breast feeding.

A doula’s ‘work’ does not end at birth. I also support women + families who experience loss, termination, death.

I am passionately devoted to the healing of women worldwide; my mission is to support women in reclaiming their power, awakening their truth within so they can transform their lives and live from a place of true authenticity & empowerment. Through both womb work + physiological birth.
